Indian Red Cross Society New Delhi, 26 February 2019: The India Meteorological
Department (IMD)and Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) will start sharing weather
and forecast information for making communities more resilient to disasters and
health epidemics. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to this effect
earlier this month.
“IMD will collaborate with IRCS to raise awareness on
weather monitoring and forecasting as part of a community-based preparedness program of IRCS in the identified districts,” Dr. M Mohapatra, Head of Indian
Meteorological Department, said.
Katpadi Indian Red Cross Society gets an award
Katpadi sub-district branch of Indian Red Cross Society
(IRCS) was given the Best Performance award for the years 2015-18. S.N.
Janardhanan, secretary of IRCS Katpadi received the award from Banwarilal
Purohit, the Tamil Nadu Governor.
Mr. Janardhanan said, “Our performance was possible because
of the support and guidance of Sub- Collector K. Meghraj and Revenue Divisional
Officers Ajai Seenivasan and E. Selvaraj. The sheer number of programs
undertaken by the Katpadi unit got us this award. It is an encouragement to the
entire team of office bearers.”
The IRCS Tamil Nadu branch held its annual general body
meeting, presided over by Mr. Purohit, in Chennai. State chairman Harish L.
Mehta welcomed the gathering. IRCS vice-chairman R.M. Balasubramanyam and
treasurer C. Indernath and secretary at Governor’s office, Rajagopal
participated.
Vellore branch of Indian Red Cross Society observes Geneva Convention Day
Students should imbibe the attitude to preserve water
sources and encourage the planting of tree saplings to safeguard natural resources
for future generations, District Collector A. Shanmuga Sundram said here on
Wednesday.
He was addressing a gathering at the 70th anniversary of the
Geneva Convention, observed at Indian Red Cross Society’s (IRCS) Vellore
branch. Mr. Shanmuga Sundram reiterated the demand for conserving waterbodies
and highlighted the efforts of the district administration in ensuring safe
drinking water for all.
It was up to the people from villages and urban areas to
protect their water sources from encroachments and polluting sources, he said.
He listed a number of social activities taken out by the Vellore branch of IRC.
Mr. Shanmuga Sundram distributed household articles to 25
poor families and gave away prizes to the winners of various competitions
conducted by IRCS-Vellore.
He assured the support of the district administration for
the sapling-planting program envisaged by IRCS-Vellore, which has announced
that it will plant one lakh saplings throughout the district in the coming
months. He inaugurated a renovated convention hall of IRCS-Vellore, which was
revamped at a cost of ₹10 lakh.
