If we have not done anything now, then one day there has come when our coming generation will not know about our culture, so we all have to do something together.

Arts

The tradition of performing arts in India dates back to Vedic times. From folk and classical dance to theatre and music, India has become internationally renowned for its rich traditional legacy of the performing arts. However, many of these art forms are at the risk of being lost today, because the artistes cannot sustain a livelihood based solely on the performing arts. Traditionally, most of these performing art forms have been handed down to our times through oral instruction. Therefore, the best way of preserving and promoting traditional and folk arts is through live transmission through teaching and performances. In the state of Maharashtra in India, artistes who specialize in some of the oldest dance forms in the country face a double challenge, ie. marginalization and the disinterest of mainstream modern audiences. Therefore, it becomes absolutely crucial to document and archive these art forms and to also constantly encourage them in order to preserve their true essence.

Culture

The richness of India’s cultural heritage lies in its intangible and vast lineage. Many of these cultural artifacts – buildings, temples, art, etc. were created due to the sheer skills of artisans and architects practicing techniques and methods that have long since passed into obscurity. Today, a major challenge faced by those who attempt to conserve this heritage is the lack of skilled conservation architects. This is mainly due to the dwindling interest in learning such skills.
In the state of Maharashtra, there is also the added challenge of lack of access to archives of historic culture and heritage as they are restricted to a few institutions in the form of inaccessible data. This makes it harder for people to become interested in or have easy access to this knowledge.
